The Sounds
The Sounds are a Swedish group most striking for their charismatic powerhouse of a frontwoman, Maja Ivarsson. Their sound is an electro tinged party pop rock, mainly high energy and to be honest, it can sound a little samey. But it's hard to deny that energy and the infectious hooks of a lot of the songs. The lyrics are multipurpose tending to bland, or so you think, but every now and again a sardonic observation will catch you out. I can't think of anyone in the UK or US doing quite this kind of thing, definitely not as well as this, and it's been well worth getting to see one of their live shows on their recent gargantuan two year tour. They're hugely entertaining and while they're not so well known here, extremely good value for money.

Dying To Say This To You
Second album in 2006 was Dying To Say This To You. Difficult to say this was a radical departure from Living in America, but why should it be? It certainly featured another collection of strong and catchy tunes.

The Sounds' site is suitably well engineered these days, affecting a grungy studio monitors-and-speakers style. Lots of stuff to look at and listen to.
